Field Trip Response

I think the field trip to Swanson-Russell and RoundScapes got me thinking about where I really want to go with my designs and what type of company I could see myself working with as a career. I enjoyed different things from each company. Swanson-Russell was more of a cubicle with some freedom type of atmosphere I felt while RoundScapes was a much more laid back atmosphere. Both worked with well-known clients. RoundScapes was more focused on web design than print design like Swanson-Russell. I don't know anything about web design but after watching their 2010 Reel, it's something I might want to explore more.

It was so beneficial to get to learn about how hard they work on projects and what all really goes into getting it the way they want. It's a way better learning experience when you can go visit people who are in the careers you want to have someday. They can teach you about what books or articles don't tell you. Sometimes when we look at a design, it seems like look so simple to do; but there is always more than we think that goes into getting the finished product.

As far as what I want to do when I graduate with my design degree, I would like to work with a photographer that does weddings, senior pictures, events, etc., and be able to work with retouching and bringing in new ideas for design. I'd love to be able to go on site with the photographer as he/she takes the pictures and maybe act as an assistant as well. I know that there is still so much I can do with designs/photos that I haven't learned yet but I want to be able to push myself so that I am not only doing what is safe, but what is challenging and goes outside the lines.

Celebrity Portrait-Illustration Class

Jason Derulo

I chose to illustrate Jason Derulo as my Celebrity Portrait because I have a passion for music and love to watch the type of dance he does. He is not only musically talented but has some of the most talented dance choreography. His music is the type that makes people want to get up and dance and have a good time but he also has some slower, more intimate songs as well.

Wooster Collective Piece

I really liked this piece of art from the Wooster Collective because I like different styles of hearts and the fact that it involves two objects to complete the artwork instead of it being just on one tree. It could be symbolic of two people in love.

I chose this photograph of Colorado as my self portrait of where I see myself in 10 years. I would like to be married and have a couple of kids and live out in Colorado-it has such beautiful scenery surrounding everything. My brother is currently living in Colorado as well and he's always wanted to live there. So then it would be like I would have my little piece of home close by.

"Exit Through the Gift Shop" Response

I thought the "Exit Through the Gift Shop" video was really interesting because it showed behind the scenes of the artists who did graffiti and showed that the artists didn't create their artwork to "destroy" or "vandalize" property like most people see it as. Banksy makes his art more important than himself but in turn, because he remains anonymous, he is so well known to people and is admired by other artists. While going through some of his images, I noticed that his art  represents light and humorous pieces but then can also represent heavy and serious issues as well.  I found this image below and really enjoyed it because it was a fun "play on words". PARKING was already painted on the building but began to fade (so much that it was hard to see) and Banksy repainted and made PARK bold and clear to see and then added a young girl swinging from the A like it was a swing set at a park.

My Inspiration

This is by Jen Stark. She was my inspiration for my paper sculpture in my 3D class.
